First edition thus. Four volumes in two. Octavo, pp., 1049, [1];1078. Numerous illustrations including frontispiece to each volume, facsimile letters and maps etc, of which 16 fold-out. Publishers’ deluxe binding in quarter morocco with 5 raised bands, gilt titles and fillets to spine and cloth-covered boards; top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. Spines lightly sunned and boards a little soiled; very slight foxing almost exclusively to textblock edge otherwise contents clean, with no annotation or inscriptions. A very good set. Churchill’s famous biography of his distinguished ancestor, which was originally presented in four volumes. This ‘entirely reset’ edition contains the whole text with all maps and plans and is ordinarily found in the published plum buckram. However sets in the deluxe amber red morocco are scarce.
