With 12 colour engraved plates as called for, and numerous line-drawings throughout. Original red leather-look quarter cloth with gilt titles and decoration to spine and green cloth-covered boards. Primrose yellow endpapers, with advertisements again printed in red and black. Boards rubbed with minor wear at corners; spine cracked at upper joint but firmly holding, and chipped at head with small loss. Gift inscription to half-title in ink, dated 1872; a little scattered light foxing, mainly to prelims and text-block edge; some pencil scribbles, mainly to rear advertisement section but also affecting single plate. A good copy in a handsome binding. A new edition [first published 1861) of the classic cookery book and guide to domestic operations, revised by the late Author’s husband Samuel Beeton, with improved up-to-date information. “Mrs Beeton” has run to many and various editions, includes “Sanitory, Medical, and Legal Memoranda” as well as information for the various members of staff likely to be employed in a prosperous household, and of course for the Mistress herself together with a “History of the Origin, Properties, and Uses of All Things connected with Home Life and Comfort”.
