Lengthy stream-of-consciousness poem by the counterculture Beat Generation American writer, critic and political activist (1926-1997). The work was composed during Ginsberg’s travels through South East Asia in 1963 and inspired by visits to the largest religious structure in the world, the temple at Angkor-Wat. Lawrence’s photographs depict the ruins and statues in decay, overgrown by creeping tree roots, matching well with the poet’s prophetic verse.
