Octavo, pp., [2] 279 [1], plus 5 engraved plates, as called for. Grey hatched cloth; title gilt to spine; citron endpapers; binders label of Bone and Sons mounted to end paste-down. Toning to covers; corners bumped; joints worn; loss to head and tail of spine; scorch mark of 1cm to spine. A few spots of soiling to contents. Otherwise generally very good.
A rare copy of a collection of accounts of famous crimes, the first on ‘The Marchioness of Brionvilliers’ is taken from the works of Dumas. The account of Robert McGregor is taken from the introduction of ‘Rob Roy’. This scurrilous and lurid book recontextualises these literary accounts amongst tales of witchcraft, assassination, and serial murder.
