Considered the best known work of Arthurian Literature, “Le Morte Darthur” is a collection of tales of Arthurian Legend. Malory aimed to draw together a ‘complete’ collation of tales and drew upon both English and French myths for inspiration. First completed around 1470 while Malory was in prison, “Le Morte Darthur” has been the well spring for many more tales of Arthurian Legend. J. M. Dent’s original edition of 1893/4 was Beardsley’s first commission as a commercial artist when he was just 20 years old. With a new forward by the medieval scholar Derek Brewer.
