Tennyson, Alfred.
The Princess: A Medley.

Publisher: Edward Moxon, London;
Date of Publication: 1847
Stock Code: 12979

First Edition. Foolscap octavo, pp., [2], 164. Publisher’s olive green cloth, blind stamped floral border to boards, title gilt to spine. Minor wear to extremities of cloth, corners lightly bumped, spine faded (as usual). Light, very occasional foxing to first and final gatherings. Overall, a very good copy in original cloth.

Tennyson’s comic narrative poem on the Princess Ida, which underwent significant changes after the publication of this first edition. In the poem, the heroic Ida rejects the world of men and founds a university which only women can enter. An unusual and charismatic work by Tennyson. Two thousand copies only were printed.
