Duodecimo, pp., xv, 336, plus 8 chromolithographic plates, and 20 further illustrated plates, as called for. Publisher’s original olive green cloth, fairy design blind-stamped to upper board, title gilt to spine. Eight of the illustrations have been carefully hand-coloured. Corners slightly bumped, very light wear to spine-tips, spine slightly cocked, edges toned but contents but contents clean, bright and fresh. A very good copy. One of the 25 ‘fairy books’ by Andrew Lang and Leonora Blanche Alleyn, which reproduce a variety of fairy stories for children. The series was beautifully bound and illustrated. This copy, occasionally hand-coloured by a reader, is a charming example of how a well-designed book could spark artistic engagement from its owner. £150.00
