Bell’s account of her travels in Greater Syria including descriptions of her time in Antioch, Jerusalem, Damascus, Beirut, Alexandretta, and among the Bedouin people. Gertrude Bell (1868-1926) was an explorer, archaeologist, diplomat, and writer. She was an expert Arabist; advocate, along with her friend T.E. Lawrence, of Arab independence, and participant in both the Paris Conference of 1919 and the Cairo Conference of 1921.
