Bell’s first book, on her first expedition to the near-East as a young girl. Gertrude Bell (1868-1926) was an explorer, archaeologist, diplomat, and writer. She was an expert Arabist; advocate, along with her friend T.E. Lawrence, of Arab independence, and participant in both the Paris Conference of 1919 and the Cairo Conference of 1921. First published anonymously in 1894 as “Safar Nameh; Persian Pictures. A Book of Travel” the first edition of this work is extremely rare.
