Octavo, pp., xv, 283, [1]; lithograph frontispiece, from a mezzotint of Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland, plus many illustrated plates of haunted houses, and further illustrations within text. Half black-roan to cream marbled boards, gilt fillets to edge of leather, titles in gilt to spine on red leather books labels, gilt embossed symbols to spine compartments. Marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. Armorial bookplate of one ‘Robert Broome’ to front pastedown. A very good, solid copy. A hint of wear to corners and edges of boards, joints also slightly worn but holding firm. Contents clean and bright, with just a little discolouration to first few gatherings. An eclectic volume on ghosts, curses, and other supernatural entities. Includes accounts of hauntings at a wide range of British country houses, and a section on the Lambton Worm of Penshaw Hill. £150.00
