FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp., 159, [1]. With eight double sided monochrome plates of paintings by Norman Cornish. Publisher’s red faux leather with gilt titles to spine in unclipped, pictorial jacket. With a signed letter from the author, in his role as public relations officer for the National Coal Board, dated 27th October 1959, loosely inserted. Small tear and light sunning to dust-jacket, a near fine book in a very good jacket.

A collection of 42 essays and insights focussed on the North East of England, illustrated with paintings by Norman Cornish, and including titles such as ‘A Song for my Darling Alice’ and ‘The Matter of Northumbria’.
