Charles Bruce Chatwin (1940–1989) was an English travel writer, novelist and journalist. In Patagonia (1977) was his first book, inspired by a trip to Argentina in 1974. The book discusses the landscape and wildlife of Patagonia, the history of European exploration and settlement, and the fate of the indigenous population. The New York Times considered the book a "little masterpiece of travel, history, and adventure." While “In Patagonia” established Chatwin as a travel writer, he considered himself a storyteller and many of his books intertwined fictionalised accounts within his stories, which were consistently about the restlessness of human nature.
