Canonical work in vampire studies, exploring the historical origins of the vampire in Ancient Greece and Rome, through central Europe and the British Isles, by connoisseur of the weird, Montague Summers. A prolific occult scholar and true English eccentric, Summers was the first person to translate Heinrich Kramer's and James Sprenger's Malleus Maleficarum ("The Hammer of Witches") into English, as well an acquaintance of Aleister Crowley and a self professed believer in witches, werewolves and vampires. Copies are rare in the original 1929 dust-jacket. Cloth very lightly soiled and sunned to spine-tips. Contents foxed, mainly to preliminary leaves and text-block edges, free from inscriptions, annotations or ownership marks. Dust-jacket spine sunned with minor loss to spine-tips and small closed tears to edges, red cover titles and borders bright and vibrant. A very good copy in a like dust-jacket.
