North was Heaney’s first work to directly address the Troubles, viewing the political unrest and violence of the period through the lens past invasions of Ireland. Richard Caddel (1949 – 2003) was a noted figure in the British Poetry revival of the 60’s and 70’s, having been inspired to write after meeting Tom Pickard and Basil Bunting in Newcastle. He helped Connie Pickard to organise the Modern Tower readings, and eventually had over twenty of his anthologies published. He helped his wife Ann found and run the Pig Press and was latterly director of the Basil Bunting Poetry Centre at Durham University. Spine slightly sunned to spine, minor shelf wear.
