Duodecimo, pp., 75, [1], with steel-engraved frontispiece portrait of Italian anti-Catholic Alessandro Gavazzi, full page steel-engraving of an auto-da-fé to verso of final leaf, plus and 29 further engravings within text, as called for. Contemporary half-sheep over marbled paper boards, titled in gilt to spine between gilt fillets. Corners bumped and rubbed, with further rubbing to spine and extremities, with minor loss to head and tail of spine. Occasional spots of soiling to contents, but generally well-preserved. A very good copy.

A rare fiercely anti-Catholic work, published one year before the Gavazzi Riots in Quebec City, in which the controversial Italian Protestant preacher Alessandro Gavazzi was attacked by a mob of local Catholics. This volume is then a rare precursor to the religious clashes that surrounded Gavazzi and his followers, written by a fellow Protestant controversialist.
