A key figure of post-war art, American painter, sculptor, draftsman, and printmaker Johns (born 1930) is known for his work in Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism and Neo-Dada movements. His iconic images of flags, targets and numbers have occupied a central position in American creative imagination since his first solo exhibition in New York in 1958.
