Octavo, pp. 316. Complete with eight monochrome illustrated plates by Arthur David McCormick. Bound in the original publisher’s sage green cloth over boards with gilt cover titles, gilt spine title and decorations. Cloth soiled and slightly worn to corners and spine-tips. A little shaken with text block cracked (but holding) to gathering F, otherwise contents generally secure. Foxed to text block edges and endpapers, bookseller’s ink stamp to front paste-down. Contemporary ownership inscription in pencil to front free endpaper else contents clean and free annotations. A good copy. Decorative Victorian collection of Poe’s most accomplished macabre tales, including “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Murders in the Rue Morgue”, and “The Cask of Amontillado”.
