This is the first edition illustrated by Edward Ardizzone, one of the most distinctive printmakers of the 20th century. “In a Glass Darkly” was Ardizzone’s first major commission with the bold idiosyncratic illustrations establishing his name as an artist. The collection explores Le Fanu’s fascination with the occult and Swedenborgian mysticism and includes the groundbreaking sapphic vampire novella “Carmilla” as well as “Green Tea”, “The Familiar”, “Mr Justice Harbottle”, “The Room in the Dragon Volant”, and “Carmilla”.
