An intimate and detailed study of Hungarian life, from a British agriculturalist who married into Hungarian in 1836. Originally published in 1839, Paget’s Hungary became a publication of particular interest following the Hungarian Wars of Independence in 1849–1850. Republished in response to these new demands for information the volumes were ‘ransacked’ by editors, and became the foundation of widely used reference sources on Hungarian society. This early edition is scarce as a complete set.
