Abel Chapman (1851–1929) was a Sunderland-born big game hunter. His trophies and taxidermy adorned Silksworth Hall in Sunderland, and are now displayed in the Sunderland History Museum and Great North Museum. He was responsible for the establishment of the Sabi Game Reserve (the first game reserve in South Africa) and helped save the Spanish Ibex from extinction. This is perhaps Chapman’s richest work, which describes experiences of hunting waterbuck, rhino, elephant and more.
