FIRST EDITION. Small quarto, pp., 68. Complete with colour frontispiece and 3 monochrome plates illustrated by Barbara Hepworth. Bound in the publisher’s blue cloth with gilt titles to spine. With the unclipped publisher’s cream dust-jacket now in a protective mylar sleeve. Cloth clean and gilt bright. Contents, tight and clean save light foxing to edges and prelims, monogram bookplate to front paste-down and small neat owner’s name in ink to front free ednpaper. Unclipped dust-jacket lightly toned with small discreet closed tears to folds and nibble to spine tips. A very good copy in a very good dust-jacket.
 
First edition of the first book by visionary poet and literary scholar, Kathleen Raine. Written in rural isolation in Ullswater the collection weaves Raine’s lifelong interests in the natural world, mysticism and Jungian psychology. Illustrated with specially commissioned modernist illustrations by Barbara Hepworth.
