Later half-calf over marbled paper-covered boards, blind rolls to calf, titled in gilt to spine; edges sprinkled red. Text within rules, with marginal glosses; ornamental head- and tail-pieces, ornamented capitals, and printer’s lace within. Shelf-wear to board edges, corners rubbed with boards slightly exposed, joints lightly rubbed and upper joint beginning to crack but holding very well, upper hinge cracked. Spots of toning to contents commensurate with age, small area of insect damage to gutter only; lacks the final 6 advertisement leaves described by one ESTC cataloguer. A well-preserved copy.

George Swinnock was a nonconformist minister whose radical commitment to nonconformity saw him repeatedly eject from ministry in the reign of Charles II. Appointed as a Fellow at Balliol in 1649, and was vicar of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire from at least 1651. This volume was written after Swinnock’s ejection as vicar of Great Kimble on the grounds of nonconformity. Later republished in 1665, in Swinnock’s collected works.
