First edition. Duodecimo, pp., 221, [1]. Original publisher’s pictorial dust jacket designed by Carol Barker, titled to spine and upper panel, blurbed to lower panel. Publisher’s original grey buckram, titled in gilt to spine. Jacket price-clipped, toned and lightly soiled with a some small closed tears. Spine cocked but cloth bright and fresh. Spots of foxing to edges of text-block, and top edge a little dusty, but contents clean and neat. A very good copy in like jacket.
Chaplin’s third and rarest novel. Sid Chaplin was a working-class novelist born in County Durham to a coal mining family. He went on to influence ‘angry young men’, and his work has been celebrated by Alan Sillitoe, Stan Barstow, and Melvyn Bragge.
