Publisher’s original midnight-blue cloth, titled in gilt to spine, titled in blind to upper board, in the original unclipped bright blue dust-jacket. Colour-printed block after Joseph Crawhall to front paste-down Spine panel of jacket faded, a little loss to spine-tips, a few closed tears approx 2-4cm to head of panels, light archival tape repairs to jacket verso, rubbing to panels. Corners slightly bumped. Contents clean and free of annotations or inscriptions. A very good copy in like jacket.
The first edition of Wells’ speculative history of the twentieth century, ending in 2106, which predicted a global economic crisis, the use aircraft in the bombing of cities, and the development of weapons of mass destruction.
The Shape of Things to Come directly influenced Golden Age science-fiction writers including Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and Poul Anderson, who came of age in the decade following the book’s publication.
