Book Condition: Very Good. Jacket Condition: Good. Decorative quarter orange & black cloth over orange paper-covered boards with tribal motif to upper board; top edge brown. Unclipped brown dust-jacket with black and white titles and repetitive pattern; matching endpapers. German text printed in black letter.Small mark to front pastedown where label has been removed and newspaper clipping glued below; inner front hinge cracked but sound. Minor damage to margin of two early leaves with very small loss (text unaffected). No annotation or inscriptions. Covers rubbed to edge with bump to head of spine. Jacket spine sunned with numerous nicks & creases to edge, minor loss with associated creasing tail of spine and loss approx 1-inch square at upper front joint; detached section to upper edge of rear cover approx 2-inches x 1-inch. Scarce autobiography of Austrian traveller & taxidermist Reischek, famed for his work in New Zealand and his collection of biological and ethnographical specimens gathered over several expeditions. The first English edition appeared six years after this original, entitled "Yesterdays in Maoriland".
