Incomplete 2 volume grangerised set. Large quarto. Vol I pp 387-679, Vol II [8], pp 3-438. 13 of the 17 plates called for and extra illustrated with 47 steel engravings, mainly from Billings, approx 73 photographic views from various twentieth-century publications and portraits of local dignitaries including some form the eighteenth century. Folding pedigree of the Eden Family, backed onto linen. Book Condition: Good (binding Very Good but text incomplete). Full vellum binding by Jordison of Middlesbrough with black calf labels and gilt titles and ruling to spine. Patterned brown endpapers. Vellum a little surface soiled and rubbed with a few bumps to extremities; gilt ruling worn. Lacks all pages before p 387 in Volume I. Ownership inscription to first blank Vol II. Scattered foxing and toning, some staining to margins and light damp-staining to top edge Vol II affecting prelims and 4 plates; a little offsetting to plates. Overall sound solid copies.
Though incomplete, the additional illustrations make this set a particularly useful reference to the history of the county. Complete sets of this work are very scarce indeed.
