FIRST EDITIONS variously published 1884, 1885 & 1887. Three volume set. Large octavo. Vol I xii, 455 pp; Vol II viii, 547 pp; Vol III viii, 464 pp. Decorative initial letters, head and tail pieces plus numerous engravings in text. Green cloth with gilt titles to spine, triple blind border to boards and City Arms in gilt to upper boards. Cover cloth slightly rubbed to spine and corners with a little minor surface soiling and scuffing; lower corners bruised. Ownership inscription dated 1912 to each ffep. Endpapers lightly soiled; minor foxing & fingermarking to text-block edge.
Welford was the foremost local historian of his generation, and his three volume history of the Town is one of its cornerstone histories.
