Frontispiece photographic portrait of Lewis Carroll with facsimile signature below, with tissue guard;Original green cloth with bevelled boards, gilt titles and gilt blocked panels to spine and upper board. Top edge gilt. Spine sunned, and creased at tips; boards rubbed to edge. Inner front hinge cracked but holding; endpapers, tissue guard and textblock edge foxed. Inscribed to ffep: “ Mrs Anthony Scott with the Author’s fond remembrances and best wishes for a happy Christmas. Dec: 1898.” A Good copy.
Biography of the celebrated author, published in the year of Carroll’s death and written by his nephew. Carroll (1832-98) kept a private diary which Collingwood used in his research, together with his uncle’s private papers. A close link to the creator of Alice in Wonderland.
