LIMITED EDITION of 50 copies only. Small quarto, pp [2], 140, [2]. Illustrated throughout in pen and ink in Crawhall’s inimitable style, many full-page. Half black calf with marbled boards, sympathetically respined retaining original boards; gilt titles to spine; top edge gilt. Boards lightly surface scuffed with minor wear to corners. Toning to endpapers from binding; a very little scattered foxing mainly to prelims and foredge; no annotation or inscriptions. A Near Fine copy.
A melange of typical Crawhall material: Northumbrian verses and extracts. The book is printed lithographically from Crawhall’s original manuscript and marks the debut in print of Joseph Crawhall III with many original illustrations by him. The publisher states on p. 140 that the engraved plates for the book were subsequently destroyed. Rare. Felver p. 40.
