Classic text on siege warfare intended for the use of the Royal Academy of Artillery at Woolwich, and referencing earlier experts on the subject Marshal de Vauban and Baron Coehorn. Muller is widely regarded as “the scholastic father of all the great engineers employed for forty years” (Boswell, quoted in ODNB) and his works were standard texts at Woolwich well into the nineteenth century. Muller (1699-1784) held the post of Professor of Fortification and Artillery at the Academy until his retirement, and also wrote extensively on mathematical subjects.
