First edition. Two volumes. Octavo, pp., xvi, 381; vii, [1], 447. With four full-page aquatints (including frontispieces to each volume) plus 19 woodcuts within the text to Vol I and 8 woodcuts to Vol II, as called for. Polished half-calf with leather title labels, gilt titles and foliate motifs to compartments; marbled boards and matching edges. Joints cracked but holding well to Vol II; first gathering Vol I loose but still attached by the cords. Armorial bookplate of Francis Garnham to each front paste-down; minor scattered foxing, heavier to endpapers, otherwise contents clean. A very good set.
Observations from a 4-month journey in the Tarentaise and parts of Savoy, with observations on the landscape, inhabitants and geology, hitherto little visited by British tourists. Heavyweight so a contribution towards increased postage costs will be requested for overseas delivery. A handsome set.
