FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. xvi, 381; vii, [1], 447. Three aquatints (including frontispiece) plus 19 woodcuts within text to Vol I; aquatint frontispiece plus 8 woodcuts to Vol II, as called for. Half polished calf with leather title labels, gilt titles and foliate motifs to compartments; marbled boards and matching edges. Joints cracked but holding Vol II; first gathering Vol I loose but still attached by the cords. Armorial bookplate of Francis Garnham to each front paste-down; scattered foxing, heavier to endpapers, otherwise contents clean. A Good set.
 
Observations from a 4-month journey in the Tarentaise and parts of Savoy, with observations on the landscape, inhabitants and geology, hitherto little visited by British tourists. Heavyweight so a contribution towards increased postage costs will be requested for overseas delivery.
