The Changes on the Tyne [Nineteenth century dialect slipsong].
Publisher:
G. Walker, [Durham];
Date of Publication:
1840
Stock Code:
6921
Undated circa 1840. Single sheet approximately 45 cm x 9.5 cm. Single column of verse below titles printed in bold, in 14 verses of rhyming quatrains, with chorus. Central crease from folding; light foxing overall and small loss at “G” in title.
Verses intended to be sung to the tune of “Mitford Gathering”, written in the Newcastle dialect. Content includes references to the railways, architect Richard Grainger, Novocastrian entertainer Billy Purvis, and the new Steam Ferry across the Tyne from North to South Shields, begun in 1838. Though several G. Walkers were printers in the North East, this was printed by George Walker Junior of Durham (1807-1888) specifically known for his printing of slipsongs. Ephemeral and seemingly unrecorded.
