FIRST EDITION, FIRST IMPRESSION of the Deluxe Edition, with full number line of 10 to 1 to the verso of title page. Octavo, pp. 223, [1]. Hogwarts crest to half-title and title page. Publishers’ scarlet cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board, colour pictorial onlay by Thomas Taylor inside gilt border to upper board, with gilt facsimile Author’s signature below; red silk place-marker; aeg. Very slight creasing at tail of spine otherwise clean and bright, with no annotation or inscriptions. A Near Fine copy.
The Deluxe Edition was published two years after the First Edition, to coincide with the release of “The Prisoner of Azkaban”, the third title in the Harry Potter series. According to Nigel Newton, founder and chief executive of Bloomsbury the Deluxe Edition was published because “...if you think of any of the great children’s classics, there would be a really nice edition. Harry Potter deserves it more than anything we’ve ever published”.
