FIRST EDITION. Large octavo, pp lv, [1], 397. 18 illustrations to 16 plates, including frontispiece and colour fold-out map. Finely reeded bottle green cloth with gilt titles to spine, in unclipped cream pictorial dust-jacket. A little minor foxing to textblock edge and prelims; no annotation or inscriptions. Jacket lightly surface soiled with a few nicks & creases, 1-inch closed tear top front edge, and 1-inch square loss (approx) to rear. A Near Fine copy in Very Good jacket.
Scarce in dust-jacket. Detailed study of the natural history of the Lothian, Fife and Stirling area of the River Forth, including mammals, birds and habitat. The Vertebrate Fauna of Scotland was begun by J A Harvie-Brown intending to study each river catchment area in the country; some areas were completed by other naturalists as he died before his work was finished, and Rintoul and Baxter were requested to take up the task.
