FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. xvi, 287, [1]. Steel engraved head- and tail-pieces and initial letters throughout. Bottle green cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board, and decoration in blind to spine and both boards; primrose yellow endpapers. Minor wear to cover cloth at corners; a slightly shaken copy with weak inner rear hinge. Bookplate to front paste-down; 4 newspaper-clippings of additional verses by Robson pasted to last blanks and endpapers. Scattered light foxing. A Very Good copy.
Rare. Third collection of verse by the Bard of the Tyne and Minstrel of the Wear, who wrote in dialect as well as standard English, with Introduction by Chartist poet Eliza Cook. Robson (1808-1870) was a schoolmaster who published widely in periodicals and collections, with some of his poems intended to be set to music.
