FIRST UK EDITION, FIRST IMPRESSION. Large octavo, pp. [4], 61, [1]. Fully illustrated in colour. With original illustrated publishers’ boards featuring the Cat in the Hat. Slightly cocked, a little bumped at spine tip and tail with a few tiny dents and patches of wear to boards. Crease to laminate on lower board. Endpapers toned, with a hint of foxing and toning to first few page edges. Free of ownership inscriptions and annotations, illustrations are bright and vibrant. A very good copy.
One of the most iconic children’s books of the 20th century. Dr Seuss’s illustrated tale of a chaotic gatecrashing cat broke the tradition of dry pedagogical readers, and taught generations how to read. It has never been out of print since.
