Octavo, pp. xxxix, [1], 194, [4] catalogue etc. Publishers’ maroon cloth with gilt titles to spine in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket designed by Paul Lowe. Clean and bright with no annotation or inscriptions. Very small crease with two tiny closed tears to top corner of upper panel of dust-jacket (not visible in photograph, as the crease was due to post-photography shelf wear). A Fine copy in a Near Fine jacket.
21 short stories including “White Wings” and “The Hollow Man”, edited with an Introduction by Jessica Amanda Salmonson. Burke (1886-1945) is best-known for “Limehouse Nights”, stories based on his experiences in the London underworld with immigrants and dockers; the tales in this collection are weird and uncanny with elements of the supernatural.
