Seventeenth Impression. 12 mo, pp. 253, [1]. Publishers’ red cloth with black titles an ruling to spine, in pictorial orange and black dust-jacket. Spine rubbed at tips and partially sunned; corners rubbed. Very slight marks to ffep from jacket otherwise contents clean; no annotation or inscriptions. Jacket sunned to spine with minor loss at head and 6 cm loss at tail; edges nicked & creased with minor loss at corners. A Very Good copy in Good jacket.
Blackwoods’ Popular 1/= Novels series, uniform edition with “The Power House” and “The Watcher by the Threshold”. The jacket describes it as “The Book of the Film” and like the movie released in 1935, the jacket is titled “39 Steps” to tie-in with the film release. Buchan’s classic adventure story is the first of the series of five to feature action hero Richard Hannay, and the film directed by Alfred Hitchcock is still widely acclaimed as one of the best adaptations. Scarce in the fragile dust-jacket.
