First edition of D. H. Lawrence’s second collection of poetry, published in an edition of 900 copies, around half of which were left unsold and remaindered. Opening with the overtly salacious “Tease” and including “Mystic Blue”, and “Snap-Dragon” many of the poems have embryonic themes addressed in Lawrence’s later more experimental poetry, with poet and critic Helen Sword noting that “despite their seeming sedateness of form, give voice to the demon of erotic violence lurking within so much of Lawrence’s most powerful writing.”
