Le Fanu’s masterpiece of the Victorian Gothic. It was first published in 1864, six years prior to his sapphic vampire novella Carmilla. Uncle Silas shows a strong interest in the occult and Swedenborgian mysticism. The novella is an early example of the locked-room mystery genre.
