A first edition in paperback of the author’s first book. Originally published in hardcover in 1968, the book is one of the best-selling children’s stories of all time, telling the tale of Sophie’s tea-party, where a tiger arrives unannounced. Inspired by visits of the author to the zoo with her daughter and perhaps influenced by her childhood in Nazi Germany, when a knock at the door could be dangerous. Kerr both wrote and illustrated the book and went on to produce the Mog series.
