Publisher’s vibrant red cloth with black woodcut style initial motif to upper board and bottom of spine, in an unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. A neat, bright book with ownership inscription of North East Labour MP Roland Boyes to front free endpaper. Dust-jacket toned. Lamination is lifting on lower panel of dust-jacket, with creasing to edges and 2.5 cm closed tear to upper panel, neatly repaired to verso with clear tape.
Charbonnier was a social photographer, chronicling life in post-war France, with his early career spent working for the magazine ‘Realites’. His work is often praised for its distance and sympathy. Produced as part of a retrospective exhibition of Charbonnier’s work. Translated from the French by Nissim Marshall.
