Translation and notes by James Hogarth with an introduction by Graham Robb. Bound in Indian goatskin leather with printed cloth sides depicting Hugo’s illustrations in sepia ink. With gilt spine titles, top-edge gilt, taupe endpapers, and brown ribbon place-marker. Housed in a brown cloth covered hinged clamshell box, with pictorial onlay to upper panel and gilt titles to spine. A miniscule scuff to the onlay illustration on clamshell box, else a fine copy in a fine box. Opulent production and the first edition with the author’s arresting ink illustrations printed on veltique ivory paper by Memminger Mediencentrum, Memmingen and bound by Lachenmaier, Reutlingen. £350.00
