FIRST EDITION ASSOCIATION COPY. Octavo, pp. 432. Publishers’ brown cloth with gilt titles to spine in unclipped purple pictorial dust-jacket. Publishers’ review copy slip loosely inserted. Lower corners a little bruised, and spine tips slightly creased. From the library of critic and author David Lodge, with his signature in ink to ffep, and annotation and lining in text in pencil. Jacket lightly rubbed to edge and slightly spine sunned. A very good copy in like jacket.

Influential novel in three parts set in a French Riviera villa before the Great War, an inter-war Australian sheep station, and London in the period leading up to World War II, with a gender fluid protagonist. Shortlisted for the Booker Prize, it was removed at the Nobel Laureate’s request to allow fresh writers a chance.
