With 30 photogravure illustrations to plates, each with captioned tissue-guard, including frontispiece of Thoreau from a daguerreotype by Moxham of Worcester, and vignette of the House at Walden from a drawing by Charles Copeland to engraved title-page. Publishers’ olive green cloth with gilt titles and gilt embossed panel to upper board. Spine toned, and cloth rubbed to edge with bruised corners. Endpapers lightly toned; a little light foxing, mainly to text-block edge; a few pages slightly roughly opened otherwise contents clean. A very good copy overall.
Introduction by Bradford Torrey. Thoreau’s classic autobiographical account of life in a cabin in the woods and observations of natural phenomena, with themes of spiritual awakening, simplicity and patience.
