First edition thus. Octavo, pp. 364. With 4 full-page plates by C. E. Brock including colour frontispiece. Publishers’ reeded light brown cloth with gilt titles to spine and black to upper board; attractive decorative border to upper board in blind and black surrounding colour paper onlay matching frontispiece, and further decoration in black and blind to spine. Cover cloth lightly a scuffed with ninor wear to corners, and small chip top edge of onlay. Printed Sunday School Prize plate to front paste-down, completed with inscriptions dated 1916. Leaves toned but a very good copy. Charles E. Brock’s illustrations for Pride and Prejudice first appeared in the Macmillan and Co., edition of 1895 and were immediately compared to those of Hugh Thomson (Gilson E790). Gilson states that the colour frontispiece and three black and white plates in this edition appear here for the very first time. £480.00
