Plath, Sylvia
The Bell Jar

Publisher: Faber & Faber, London;
Date of Publication: 1971
Stock Code: 12187

Softcover octavo, pp. [4], 258. Publisher’s pictorial soft card wraps with titles to spine and upper wrap. Faber’s ads to inner wraps. The author David Lodge’s copy with his ownership signature in red ink to half-title and some marginal annotations. Spine shows light creasing. Overall a near fine copy.

First published pseudonymously in 1963 under the name Victoria Lucas. Plath took her own life less than a month after the work’s publication, solidifying the novel as one of the most tragic coming of age novels of the twentieth century. Faber’s now well classic modernist cover design by Shirley Tucker.
