Original stitched colour pictorial paper wraps. Paper wraps wrinkled and surface loss to illustrated lower wrap. Creased across upper wrap.
Written by the Wesleyan Missionary Society after a mission to New Zealand, “About the Maori Children” tells of the history and legends of the Maori people from their tattooing traditions to schooling systems. The illustrations are by Thomas Sulman, known for his work as an engraver to Dante Rossetti. Rare both in commerce and institutionally. COPAC locates one copy only at Cambridge, with no copies in the National Archive of New Zealand.
