FIRST THUS. Quarto, pp. 127, [1]. With illustrations and 5 monochrome plates with tissue guards captioned in black. Bound in the publisher’s sage green cloth over boards, blocked in gilt, with gilt medallion depicting Dickens to upper board, gilt titles to spine, top edge gilt. Cloth sunned to spine, lightly rubbed to corners. Tissue guards present and free from nicks and tears. Some offsetting to endpapers, else contents, clean, secure, and free from annotations or ownership inscriptions. A very good copy.
The first edition of Dickens’ classic festive ghost story to be illustrated by British artist Harold Copping. Copping was especially noted for his realism in his depiction of Dickens’ child characters.
